Treatment Techniques

Physiotherapy Treatment Techniques

Physiotherapy treatment encompasses many different techniques. The variety of techniques that are carried out by each Physiotherapist can vary, depending on their individual experience & post graduate knowledge.

Treatment techniques that are part of your individual rehabilitation program are rarely used in isolation. A number of different techniques can be incorporated over the course of your treatment sessions. This ensures that you are receiving the correct treatment for the stage of your condition.

de Carle Physiotherapy offers the following treatment techniques:

Exercise Prescription

Exercise prescription is a vital part of Physiotherapy. Exercises can be prescribed to increase your mobility, joint range, flexibility, strength, power, endurance, general fitness & improve balance & co-ordination. Specific exercises are selected for your personalised home exercise program, appropriate to your current activity level. Resistance bands & weight equipment may be used.

Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy assists with the movement of your joints & soft tissues. This can include various joint mobilisations, joint manipulation, specific soft & deep tissue techniques & trigger point release.

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic Massage involves the mobilisation of soft tissues. Massage contributes to the reduction of muscle tension, improves tissue mobility, stimulates circulation & encourages the body to flush out toxins released during cell regeneration. Whether you require pre-event activation, post-event flush, a sport or restorative massage as part of your injury or illness management program or you just need to relax, massage has many benefits. It is where Physiotherapy started but is now an adjunct to other techniques in the Physio’s tool box.

Electrotherapy

Electrotherapy is the use of electrical energy which can stimulate nerve fibres to; reduce pain, improve micro-circulation and stimulate cell & tissue healing. Types of Electrotherapy we offer include Therapeutic Ultrasound, Electromyography (EMG), Interferential, Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS), Low Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound (LIPUS), & Transcutaneous Neuromuscular Stimulation (TENS).

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is the application of cold therapy to a joint, a limb, or specific area of soft tissue. The use of ice, our Therapearl cold packs or our Gioco Cryo 2 cold circulation equipment, helps to reduce both swelling & pain.

Compression Therapy

Compression Therapy is pressure applied to the tissues by the therapist or by our Gioco Cryo 2 equipment. It’s great for reducing swelling after an injury or operation. The excess fluid is encouraged into the lymphatic system to drain. This lowers the pressure on the limb & restores oxygenated blood flow to the area, improving healing.

Thermal Therapy

Thermal Therapy is the application of heat therapy to a joint, a limb, or specific area of soft tissue. The use of our Therapearl heat packs or our equipment that encourages the cells to generate heat internally, help improve circulation & reduce pain.

Taping & Strapping

Taping & Strapping involves the use of therapeutic tapes to stabilise a single or multiple joints, reduce muscle spasm, increase muscle tone, reduce swelling, improve circulation or support joint alignment throughout movement. The outcome required dictates which tape or strapping is used.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the application of thin sterile needles to meridian points on the body, through the skin. This stimulates the brain to produce endorphins, natural pain relieving chemicals. TCM acupuncture treats overall health & wellbeing.
